What are the best products to use to turn my thick hair into nice curly hair?

I'm probably the wrong person to try and answer this question, because anything I use to try and permanently curl my hair, just completely straightens it out (ugh!). ...even if I only leave it in for half the recommended time!

Sooo... I gave up, got a pair of clippers, and gave myself a TWA (Teeny-Weeny Afro). It's been like that for years now, and I love it (so do all my family and friends). All I have to do is wake up in the morning, comb it (or sometimes not) and go!
