What do you do with your thick, curly hair?

So, I have very thick, curly hair that is extremely difficult to manage. I've formed a temporary truce with it, but was just wondering what you people with similar hair do? (shampoo, conditioner, product, styling, different cuts, anything!)

My sister ties it back tight in a ponytail on normal days and when going out, she might wear it down, big and curly or have the messy look with curls coming out on her face (which I cant stand)

i use herbal essence straighening shampoo, and frizz eaze stuff, and then straighten it, that makes it so unbelievable thin

I have really thick curly hair that goes mad out of control but i wash it every other day with tresseme shampoo and conitioner and if i straighten it i use tresseme straightenin spray...i neer have it down cuz its to hard to keep under control but a nice side ponytail with a quiff always works for me ! good Luck !!

i would get it short like a little above my shoulders and get some layers cut off and make the curls really curly and dye it a redish brownish color and seperate the curls to give a cute look.. MY COUSIN JUST PUTS IT UP IN A BUN WITH LITTLE BANGS AND SHORT CURLS COMING OURFROM EACH SIDE..or she ties it in a high pony...

I've had luck with hair products with silicone in them to make it sleeker and prevent frizz. I don't shampoo very often. When I get in the shower I just rinse it well then put in conditioner. Shampoo really dries it out and curly hair needs to build up some of the natural oils. I've had my hair short in the past and that didn't work well for me because it stuck out too much. With longer hair, there's more weight to it. In the summer when it's hot I wear pigtails or I clip it up in a bun to keep it off my neck. Also, I never, ever use heat to style it because it just makes it a mess. I don't brush it either. I just run my fingers through when it's wet and then I let it airdry and leave it alone.

I used to have looong hair b4 and I always thought it was only wavy hair and it was very unmanageable and frizzy too. But I cut my hair to chin length few months back and noticed that it was CURLLLY. Then I started using garnier fructis curl and shine system to manage the frizz and stuff. I now have shoulder length hair and am planning on growing it long again but now I see that my hair is much more softer and less frizzy than b4.

Although you might not want a different hair cut or style, you might want to try garnier fructis curl and shine shampoo, conditioner and leave-in-conditioner. Also, I rarely use blow dryer too since it causes more frizz. And I use the garnier fructis hair spray for special occasions only.

Also, I shampoo and condition hair once a week but use leave-in conditioner everyday though. And I try not to brush too much since it seems to cause frizziness. I mainly style with my fingers after using the leave-in conditioner.

Good luck with your hair!

Wash it. It's not so much what I do with it but what other people do with it. My thick curls get molested on a regular basis.

i love garnier curls and shine. they also have a leave in conditioner cream that i use and love.

the best thing to do is wash your hair in the shower and add conditioner. leave it for a few minutes then use a pick comb and comb it out. then when your out of the shower add a strengthening balm or a leave in conditioner. then add a cream based curl setting styling product to finish it off. the best way to encourage your hair to dry with separate curls is to use a hair drier with a diffuser. the diffuser makes a huge difference

if you go to a hair salon and you get someone who is experienced with cutting curly hair they can do something called thinning. they don't use thinning shears, but it's a way they cut into your hair to add volume while thinning it out and taking away bulk!

hope this helps!

I'm not sure but when you find out LET ME KNOW! ! ! ! ! ! !

cuz I have thick curly hair too....and it needs some serious help.

But so far I just straighten mine. It takes forever but It works and I can leave it like that for a while...and I can do different stuff with it when its straight.

I wash my with conditioner every 2 days or so.I put moisterizing jelly by aubrey organics in my hair, it doesn`t have strong hold. The other times i was always using IC gel but i don`t want to use it anymore because it makes my hair white,Some people brush the gel into the hair, but its not a good idea to brush hair while its wet, brushing isn`t good for curly hair anyway.
