i have thick hair and ive got tight ringlets underneath but the top of my hair is just a bit flicky, how do i get the top of my hair curly without using gel and scrunch drying it so its all sticky?

Try some small rollers or perm rods and dampen your hair overnight. It should be curly when you take them out. It worked for an ex of mine at least.

I have the same problem. Instead of using sticky gel, try a serum from about the middle to the end of your hair and gently scrunch it. Since your hair's thick like mine, it will absorb the serum which will just add a slight gloss to it and won't make it sticky or greasy. I tend to add the serum to towel-dried hair and then I let it dry naturally because blow-drying makes my hair frizzy and then after it's dry, I don't touch it apart from maybe spritzing in some hold-spray.

well the curling iron is the best way to do it. Start by putting you hair in a half ponytai then clip ponytail up so that its not in the wayl. Then spiral it. after you have done one layer hairspray it and pull more hair out of the ponytail. If you dont now how to spiral its easy All you have to do is put the the clip of the curling iron on the outside of a small section of hair and curl in as close as you can get. Hold for about 10 seconds. make sure curling iron is as hot as can be. You can turn it down once in awhile. Make sure to hairspray. If you dont want to leave the curling iron in longer 15-20 seconds. once done flip hair over and shake it out. might be poofy but will come down. That should make you hair curly.

i have curly thick hair and its short. what i do to keep the curls in is- i put about 2 golfball size globs of mouse on my hand. then i spread it through my hair. Then part ur hair in the middle, side watever u want. Next u get the defuser(big funnel thing that u can attatch to the end of the hair dryer) and flip ur head over. with the defuser on the dryer (high heat) just move the dryer up and down untill it is as curly as u want. then flip ue head over the other way and do the same. then come upright and hairspray it . it doesnt get all sticky(let the hairspray dry) because u uesed mouse. section your hair of and placce you straighteners at the root of your hair.

As you drag the straighteners down turn them-and keep turning them in the same direction until you reach the bottom. this should produce nice ringlets.

you can then either let it air dry, sleep in your set overnight or use a hood type hairdryer to dry it quicker
