I have straightened my hair for 4-5 years, and I really like it, but I'm in the mood for something different. The last time I straightened my hair was in September 2005 and I had it highlighted and colored it in mid-March. Even with the straightening, I can still style my hair curly, but it gets a little funky on the parts that were straightened, so I have to use a curling iron to make them behave. I was wondering if instead of getting the straightening touched up, if I could perm it back to curly. In my mind, they are both chemical processes, so would one really be worse for my hair than they other? Also, is there a less-damaging perm that might bring back the curls? My hair is in relatively good condition considering the amount of processing it has undergone. Any recommendations?

I was in a similar situation with you. Expect I wanted my curly perm to be straighten out. But remember that once you re-perm your hair (it is a permanent) it will take months before you can changed it back. Do to the chemical processes your hair takes from the perm. So be very careful on what you want.

I don't know any less-damaging perm. But I believe there are some pre-conditioning treatments you can use, before you get perm again (ask a professional about this, in a beauty salon). I recommended after, in a week use a deep conditioner (Check at the Sally's Beauty Supply) along with a leave-in conditioner (Infusium is good). Your hair should be fine. Just don't over do it. I wouldn't recommend a perm!!! just curl it when you want it curling and if you want it to look like natural curling then after washing it shove it up into a scruffy bun and sleep on it helps to get it curly
